The Survival Centre for Youth is a free informal drop in centre recognizing the challenges faced by today’s youth. The centre is focused on the individuals overall well-being and better quality of life. Open to youth aged 16-29 who may find themselves to be financially strapped, in need of assistance with upgrading resumes or searching for employment, transient, homeless or who are generally feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. The centre is run by a trained youth worker and operates Monday – Friday from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm.
Besides being a relaxed place to vent, the Survival Centre offers services such as:
- Hot meals in a fully equipped kitchen
- Shower facilities
- Laundry facilities
- Job search and resume writing assistance
- Nightly access to a youth worker
- Referrals for services
- Lounge room home to couches, a movie and book library and video game systems
- Gym and games room equipped with a pool table, foosball and air hockey tables and board games for recreational purposes
- Computer access
The Survival Centre for Youth is a hands on facility who’s aim to enhance participants life skills through community meals, information sessions, demonstrations, group information exchanges and mock employment exercises. The Survival Centre also provides survival kits filled with shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste and a comb/brush to meet the basic needs of transient youth. Take away food packages are available in emergency situations.
